Are You Correctly Covered?

Too often, a contractor will invite an alternative insurance broker in to review their insurances only to be told that their cover is inadequate for the work they carry out.

Work on towers, steeples, work at height or depth, the use of heat, burning off, lead work, piling, underpinning, demolition, such work is often excluded from a standard contractor's liability policy.

For example, one firm we spoke to recently, a General Builder, was frequently involved in restoration work both on ecclesiastical buildings as well as listed buildings. Some processes involved historical lead working on National Trust buildings.

Their existing insurances not only excluded all 'heat' work, but also had a 'hazardous works endorsement' excluding all cover for work on churches, and especially church towers. It was clear that this company was incorrectly insured.

Most contractor insurance policies are sold based on standard policy terms and conditions and whilst these will vary between insurers, essentially the type of work permitted under these policies has key restrictions.

Even though many contractors are able to work quite successfully within such parameters, all contractors and clients working within the construction sector need to be especially vigilant about cover in force.

As your Insurance Broker we would like to provide you with a thorough review of your existing policies, not only to ensure correct cover is in force but also to ensure that the most competitive policy available is offered.
